We are excited to begin another school year at Astral Astronomers, the Amateur Astronomy association at McCall Elementary! We are thankful to the McCall PTA and our wonderful teachers for sponsoring the Astronomy association.
The association’s activities will depend largely on parental involvement along with their child’s interest. We will learn as we go and support each other through the journey, as we try to find our way through the starry night sky!! As per the school and PTA guidelines, all involved parents need to be cleared by mandatory PTA volunteer background checks. If you have not already signed up, please do so right away at http://www.pisd.edu/about.us/partners.volunteers/volunteer.application.shtml
The Astronomy association will have two meetings each month on Friday evenings. We will be alternating indoor meetings ( 6-7pm in the McCall Library) with Outdoor star gazing activities. The star gazing sessions start at sunset and will last about 1 ½-2 hours, depending on weather, time of sun set and clear skies.
We plan to have field trips to Planetariums, observatories and museums in the DFW area. Please note, there will be no bus service provided. It will be the parent’s responsibility to bring their child to meetings and field trips.
