Order your parent 2018 Field Day Shirt by Monday, April 30, 2017!

Every student will again receive a FREE field day T-Shirt from McCall PTA this year!!! We are very happy that we are able to allow each student to have a T-Shirt without incurring any cost to the parents. Students will be sized at school.

For ADDITIONAL children or adult shirts, please complete the order form sent home last week (or download here), and return to your child's teacher with cash or check made to "McCall PTA" by Monday, April 30, 2017.

PISD News - 2018 April 20 District-Wide Security Initiative

Dear Parents,
Plano ISD understands and appreciates that students want their voices to be heard in matters of school safety. With the national remembrance of Columbine on April 20, and in light of the national conversation related to organized student walkouts, Plano ISD is providing students with an opportunity to be directly involved in making a positive impact on maintaining a safe and caring learning community. On Friday, April 20, all students in grades 5–12 will participate in a district-wide initiative that will allow them to become engaged and equipped to report safety concerns and to use the Plano ISD Tip Line.
Campuses will determine a specific time of day and dedicate approximately fifteen minutes for students and staff to view a brief, five-minute video and use their mobile devices to install the Plano ISD mobile app and become familiar with the anonymous Tip Line feature. The Tip Line can also be accessed using any web-enabled computer, whether at home, at school or in a public setting like a library, at www.pisd.edu/tipline. The video will convey that safety is a shared responsibility by all and will encourage students to speak up if they see something or know something related to school safety.
Instructions on how to download the Plano ISD mobile app and access the Tip Line feature can be found at www.pisd.edu/mysafeschool. The related video will be posted on this page after it is viewed in schools on April 20. We encourage all parents to view the video and follow the instructions for utilizing the mobile app to assist your children in reporting, especially in our younger grades. Thank you for being valued partners in the interest of keeping Plano ISD schools safe.

El ISD de Plano entiende y valora el deseo de los alumnos de hacer escuchar sus voces en cuestiones de seguridad escolar. Con la conmemoración nacional de Columbine este 20 de abril, y en vista de la conversación nacional sobre paros estudiantiles, el ISD de Plano proveerá a los alumnos la oportunidad de estar directamente involucrados en tener un impacto positivo sobre la preservación de una comunidad de aprendizaje segura y solícita. El día viernes, 20 de abril, todos los alumnos de los grados 5–12 participarán en una iniciativa de todo el distrito que les permitirá tomar parte y equiparse para reportar situaciones de seguridad y para usar la Tip Line (Línea de Denuncia) del ISD de Plano.
Los campus establecerán una hora específica del día y apartarán aproximadamente quince minutos para que los alumnos y personal puedan ver un vídeo breve, de cinco minutos y usar sus dispositivos móviles para instalar la app móvil del ISD de Plano y familiarizarse con la herramienta anónima Tip Line. 2018 March Book Madness Winner - As fast as Words Could Fly

Thank you to all the students and families of McCall for voting in our first Book Madness Tournament. We began this exciting reading journey with 16 amazing books with compelling characters. The final two were We’re all Wonders and As fast as Words Could Fly! With a vote of 65% our students chose As fast as Words Could Fly as McCall’s first book of the year! Thanks again for your participation and we look forward to continuing this adventure next year!

Young Mason Steele takes pride in turning his father’s excited ramblings about the latest civil rights incidents into handwritten business letters. One day Pa comes home with a gift from his civil rights group: a typewriter. Thrilled with the present, Mason spends all his spare time teaching himself to type. Soon he knows where every letter on the keyboard is located. When the civil rights group wins a school desegregation case, Mason learns that now he will be attending a formerly all-white high school. Despite his fears and injustice from the students and faculty, Mason perseveres. He does well in school—especially in his typing class. And when he competes in the county typing tournament, Mason decides to take a stand, using his skills to triumph over prejudice and break racial barriers.

Please be respectful of our guest speakers' time and BE PUNCTUAL and mindful of the noise level. It is not easy to find guest speakers, so we need everyone's cooperation, please!
Parents are welcome to stay and learn from our guest speakers!
Please remind your children to clean up after themselves after the meeting. We would appreciate help with pushing the chairs back and putting the library back in proper order before everyone leaves for the night.

2018-2019 McCall Colt Spirit Shirt Design Contest

Help us Design the Shirt for 2018-2019 School Year!
Deadline for submission : April 23, 2018
The winner will receive a free 2018-2019 spirit bundle with the T-Shirt included.

Rules

Every student enrolled at McCall Elementary can submit 1 design each.
The shirt should have our school's name, the logo (colt or horseshoe), or both.
The design should only be on the front of the shirt.
The design should have 1-3 colors.
Inappropriate designs or entries violating the rules will be disqualified.
Designs should be your own work. Unoriginal designs will be disqualified.

Rules for Submission

You may use this form to submit your design.
Deadline for submission is April 23, 2018.
Late submissions will NOT be accepted.
Student Name, Grade and Teacher must be included on the submission form.
Design should be turned in to your teacher.

Judging

Design creativity and originality. Captures McCall Colt spirit pride.
Only 1 design will be selected. The winning design will be used for the 2018-2019 spirit wear t-shirt.

Prize

The winner will receive a free 2018-2019 spirit bundle with the t-shirt included.

Donations needed for Silent Auction Class Baskets

YOUR help is needed to donate items for our Silent Auction class baskets and is crucial to the event’s success. Grade levels will work together on the themes below. Please donate new items that follow that grade theme. Donations can be turned into the boxes in front of the library by Wednesday, April 25th, 2018.

Kindergarten & 1st : Arts & Crafts (e.g. crayons, paper, stickers, craft kits)
2nd Grade & 3rd Grade: Outdoor Fun & Sports (e.g. outside games, sidewalk chalk, sports balls)
4th Grade & 5th Grade: Legos (sets, books, blind bags)

McCall Garden Needs YOU !

The McCall garden is growing and we need your help! The McCall PTA Garden Committee is looking for a small group of dedicated and experienced volunteers to assist in the ongoing care of our beautiful garden. Volunteers will be required to dedicate time in the garden on a regular basis to help water, fertilize, thin seedlings and take care of other basic garden tasks as needed. We are looking for individuals that are comfortable taking care of a variety of flowers, berries and vegetable plants.

If you are interested in being a part of this team, please email our Environmental Chair, Jennifer Garvin,, at environmental@mccallpta.org. The garden is a lot of work, but very rewarding!
